Hi, I’mVictoria
I am a trained end-of-life doula and companion based in Schoharie and Albany County. A lot of people have asked me what got me into this career path, as it is not your typical 9-5. I would say two words, my Grandmother. My Grandma, Joan, had such a wonderful and significant impact on my life - and it was an honor to be there with her during her last few days. Joan was a single woman for most of her life, dating here and there…but one person she always had was my mother. My grandmother lived with us most of my life, teaching me how to drive, how to make sauce, and how to braid my hair when I was a child. She was nonjudgmental, beautifully kind, and truly wanted nothing more but to leave this world better than when she came in.
Fast forward to 2018, my grandmother was now laying in a hospice bed with terminal cancer in her daughter’s home. It’s a hard transition for everyone, witnessing death firsthand. In the week prior to her passing, I had come to my parents house to help my mom with respite care, giving her a few hours off from 24/7 care really can make a difference. It was there I saw exactly just what caretakers and family members go through on a daily basis living with an active dying family member, and it can be debilitating at times. It showed just how dynamics can play a crucial role in the individual’s care and happiness. I thought what about the elderly that didn’t have family around them? Sudden accidents or diagnosis? Learning just how to navigate these experiences from stressful to peaceful became an interest of mine, which has led me down the path I’m on today.
I am certified through IAP Career College, and a member of NEDA (National End-of-Life Doula Alliance). My goal is to ensure that individuals and their loved ones feel supported, safe, and that their voice is heard. I offer services such as vigil planning, legacy projects, funeral planning, respite care, and much more. I work alongside hospice staff to offer non-medical holistic and emotional support through every stage of the journey.
I look forward to hearing from you, and to help create a safe space for you and your loved ones to be at peace.
